I am a senior at Rutland High School in Rutland, Vermont. I was enrolled in the school's STEM Capstone class for those interested in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. As a member of this class I had to create a project focusing on one of the STEM components. I knew that I wanted to focus on something to do with business because that is what I want to major in and study in college. After a long time of thinking about what I could do for my project that could both involve business and those STEM components I found something that was interesting to me and helpful for the community. I decided that I would study businesses around the Rutland area for what the employees and owners did and how it impacted their business, in a positive or negative way. I looked primarily at the employee psychology and how the owner invested their time, resources, and money in the business. As I researched more and more I decided to expand the project beyond the Rutland area and to the whole state of Vermont to really find some common characteristics that businesses that were having success had and what things other businesses that struggle could do to improve their model.
